Painting the room can lead to fumes that could be harmful to your baby, but if you get the room ready early and aired out, there should be no problems at all. Using paint that is odourless and fume free can be a great help if you leave the decorating until the last minute.

If you know the sex of you baby, it will be easier to choose your colour scheme, theme and baby bedding early. Set up a nappy changing area. You can purchase a nappy changing table or if you’re short on space, a cot top changer, make sure that all the supplies are on hand, if you use a cot top changer add a cot tidy too, this will keep all the lotions, wipes and baby necessities close at hand so you won’t have to leave your baby to find something you need. It will certainly help to be ready, since you’ll be changing plenty of nappies when your baby finally arrives. Remember, NEVER leave your baby alone on a changer or changing table, accidents can so easily happen..

Have a place to sit in your baby nursery, try to have a place where you can sit down to breastfeed, cuddle your baby or simply have some alone time, a comfortable armchair or rocker would be ideal.
