It is that time of the year again. There is a fragrance in the air. You feel like dusting your old camping gear and going away to the hills or a lake, during the weekend. A short two day camping trip with the family is one of the most enjoyable ways to welcome spring.

I had been thinking of going out on a camping trip for quite some time. My two kids were growing up real fast and I wanted to spend some time with them. I went up to the attic and downloaded all of my camping equipment; rucksacks, sleeping bags, tents and fishing gear. Everything seemed to be in perfect condition. I decided to take along my trust old stove. If there was rain, then a stove came in handy to cook and warm stuff.

I checked the local weather reports of our camping site. Even if there was a slight chance of rain or hail, I would postpone until next week. I surprised my kids on Thursday morning and told them that tomorrow afternoon we would set out on a camping and fishing trip. The look of anticipation on their faces was very rewarding.

On the day we left for our trip, the weather was warm and the sun was shining. We reached the camping grounds in time. We unloaded the gear and pitched up our tents. Doing all that work made us hungry so we roasted hot dogs and opened a can of beans. After dinner we decided to get into our sleeping bags. It had been a long day and we were ready to sleep.

I tucked in my kids and they fell asleep soon afterwards. I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of growling skies and sight of lightening. As is often the case in the out of doors, it started to rain heavily. I checked up on my kids. Each of the two kids were warm and snug in their mountain hardwear sl sleeping bag. There was a nip in the air when we woke up. But the sleeping bags had kept us warm and cozy throughout the night.

We had excellent weather over the next two days. It was a memorable trip. We fished and hiked. It was the beginning of a family ritual that would be repeated over the years.
