Snowbiking – The Extreme Sport of 2010
Winter sports fans are in for a treat this year as a little known activity has been gathering momentum and will make its mark properly this season.The sport of snowbiking involves traveling down a traditional ski run on a modified bicycle. People have been trying to ride their bikes down a snowy run for years, but road bikes were never cut out for very low friction surfaces. Over the years many snowboard and ski enthusiasts have been working on newer designs in the hope of discovering something that worked. Sadly, many of the earlier models were bulky and difficult to steer, and it has only been in the last few seasons that a snowbike has been developed that really works.
The best snowbike on the market is produced by a Canadian company, and they are so confident that the sport will be a huge hit, that they are arranging the first even world championship for 2010. Snowbikes are not really freestyle or jumping pieces or equipment, but instead built for speed and manoeuvrability. This will be reflected in the world championship events that will be based around slalom and speed competitions. Unsurprisingly, the best snowbikes available today take heavy influence from powered snowmobiles. They maintain a lower centre of gravity and are steered using a bladed mounted to the front which can dig into the snow to change direction. This enables the rider to turn relatively sharply, but instead of having an engine at the back propelling the device, it of course relies on gravity to build up momentum.
Snowbike manufactures admit that snowbiking is not the easiest of extreme sports to master, but that it is well worth putting in the hours to master. Apparently learning how to snowbike shares similarities with learning to ride basic mountain bikes. It is a skill that takes a little while to get right, but it has a steep learning curve and once you’ve mastered it you won’t lose it. You can get the snowbikes in a variety of sizes, including smaller bikes for children. There are also multiple extras now, such as stabilisers, headlights and even horns.
There will be a temptation for many proficient snowboarders and skiers to tackle the hardest runs straight away, but manufacturers urge people to start of small and build up, no matter how good you think you will be. Snowbikes are much harder to stop than snowboards or skis, and if you haven’t mastered the technique you will not only be risking your own safety, but you may be endangering the safety of other winter sports enthusiasts also.
Certain American ski resorts in fact have prohibited snowbikers on their slopes until more is known about the safety of the things. The majority of locations however are understanding to snowbikers, but still suggest that everyone is careful until we know just how safe they are. Whatever resorts think of the bikes, with a reported 30,000 snowbikers worldwide, this one seems like a trend that is going to stick (or slide as the case may be).

Instead of concentrating on the ultimate end of education, the author outlines an argument in the first chapter for a mediate political goal of education, namely, the formation of competent citizens. In the second chapter he presents a set of necessary but not sufficient conditions to reach this aim and subsequently explains why even when all the necessary conditions are satisfied they may still lead to a failure. This approach reveals an implicit logic of education in the works of Plato.;The author explores several questions raised in the first two chapters and draws some interesting conclusions in the third. Education, according to Plato, is a project circumscribed by a bewildering, although often at least partially predictable, set of contingencies that both foster and impede its progress. Knowledge of these fundamental facts, as well as the specific sorts of conditions and circumstances that regularly come into play, is required by those who embark on the project of constructing a system of education that forecasts an acceptable rate of success, while at the same time recognizing, and accepting, that failures will occur.
